There is a question that drives everything we do at Fauno Academy.
Not what is wrong with this animal?
But what is this animal's body trying to tell us - and why?
It sounds like a small distinction. In practice, it changes everything.
The body is not the enemy
When an animal develops a chronic skin condition, recurring digestive issues, or persistent low energy, the instinct - in both conventional and alternative medicine - is often to target the symptom. To suppress it, manage it, or neutralise it.
At Fauno Academy, we work from a different premise: symptoms are not the problem. They are the body's most honest communication.
Inflammation, mucus, skin reactions, behavioural shifts - these are not malfunctions. They are signals from a biological system that is doing exactly what it was designed to do: respond, adapt, and attempt to restore balance.
Understanding what they are signalling - and why - is the beginning of real support.
The terrain: where naturopathy meets science
The concept at the heart of our approach is one of the oldest in naturopathic medicine - and one increasingly supported by modern biological research.
The terrain.
Not just the organ that's struggling. Not just the pathogen or the trigger. But the full biological landscape of the individual animal: their constitutional strengths and vulnerabilities, their history, the load their eliminatory organs are carrying, the environment they live in, the quality of what they eat, the stress their nervous system is managing.
Two animals can present identical symptoms and need entirely different support - because their terrains are different. The symptom is the last chapter of a story that began much earlier.
Terrain medicine asks thequestions that come before the diagnosis:
What conditions allowed this to develop?
What is the body compensating for?
What does this animal need in order to restore its own equilibrium?
This is not a rejection of conventional veterinary medicine. It is a complementary layer of understanding - one that makes every other intervention more precise.
Evidence-informed, not evidence-blind
The word natural is not, by itself, a guarantee of anything.
At Fauno Academy, we hold plant medicine, nutritional support, and naturopathic protocols to the same standard of rigour we would apply to any other therapeutic approach. Every plant we teach has documented mechanisms of action. Every protocol is built on biological logic. Every recommendation considers the specific physiology of the species, the individual animal's condition, and the safety of long-term application.
We do not oppose science. We use it - as the most precise tool available for understanding why nature works.
This is what we mean when we say Where Science Meets Nature. Not a compromise between two worlds. A conversation in which each makes the other more precise.
Who this is for
Our approach is designed for two kinds of people - who are, more often than not, asking the same question from different positions.
Pet Professionals
Veterinarians, vet technicians, animal therapists, nutritionists, and trainers who are looking for a rigorous, evidence-informed framework to integrate naturopathic tools into their practice. Who want to offer their clients something beyond symptom management, without compromising their scientific standards.
Conscious Guardians
The owners who have followed every conventional recommendation, run every test, tried every diet, and still feel that something is being missed. Who trust their instinct that their animal's body is trying to communicate something - and want the knowledge to understand what.
Both deserve the same quality of education. That is what Fauno Academy is built to provide.
Fauno Academy was born from Istituto Fauno - Italy's first professional school of veterinary naturopathy, founded in 2016 in Sardinia by Alessia Podda. A decade of professional training, research, and clinical application in one of Europe's oldest naturopathic traditions.
That foundation is what makes oureducation different. Not a collection of wellness trends or anecdotal protocols - but a coherent, tested, biologically grounded methodology, now available toan international audience for the first time.
We believe the conversation about animal health deserves to be broader, more rigorous, and more human than it currently is.
